The Civilian Board of Contract Appeals is seeking outstanding applicants to serve for one year as law clerks beginning September 2026. Full-time law clerks assist judges at the Board by conducting legal research, drafting legal memoranda, preparing analyses of facts, assisting in the preparation of orders and decisions, attending hearings, and taking part in mediations.
Job Information
This clerkships is a full-time position at the GS-0904-09, step 1 level with multiple vacancies in Washington, D.C. The position is a temporary appointment of one year. The position is subject to availability of appropriations and legal authority to hire.
Qualifications
You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
At the time of application you must be enrolled in an accredited law school
with an expected graduation date of May 2026. Proof of graduation will be
required prior to your start date.
You must be able to pass a background investigation for a public trust position.
No specific courses are required for selection, but government contracts
courses are helpful.
Successful applicants will demonstrate strong analytical and writing skills.
Law clerks must be proficient in the use of all legal research tools, including
on-line resources such as Westlaw.
An application package must include the following:
1. Cover letter stating your reason for seeking a clerkship with the Board and
your relevant academic and other qualifications;
2. Resume;
3. Law school transcript (need not be official but should include GPA); and
4. A legal writing sample no longer than 10 double-spaced pages.

The Board will accept applications from August 15, 2025 to October 1, 2025. Applications are accepted until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on the final day of the application period.
